Tie to the rescue

Tie to the rescue

Cleo Faucette

In this blog I will discuss the easy tie wrap belt I created this past weekend for my trip to Charlotte.   The dress i decided to take on my trip was missing the belt that went along with it, so I decided to improvise with the use of two of my father-in-laws old neck ties.  I hopped on the phone and called to see what neck ties he could spare, with my luck it could have been a true vintage tie belt.  Lucky for me he had a few really nice ties that he was going to trash(see photo 1)

So I gathers about four ties to see which i liked the best together.  I then laid the two wine colored ones together with the bigger sides over-lapping one another.  I pinned them together to be sure they aligned properly; i also pinned them so they wouldn’t shift while I was sewing them together.t doesn’t shift during the sewing process.  As you can see my daughter made me my snow man pin cushion for a gift last year and I looovvveee it!!!

The next step is to put needle to tie and marry these two puppies together, yippee!!! The sewing process was a little tough because the ties were pretty thick and over-lapping them made them stiffer.  Good thing I have an industrial strength machine that I like to call “Rhoda”.  Rhoda because she was the best friend that was always there when your in a pinch.  Meet Rhoda!!!

Once I sewed them together, I unpinned the sewn pieces and tada an instant belt,  that is super long and can be wrapped around your waist twice.  It actually cinched my waist in more and gave me the appearance of a slimmer waistline(gotta love that).

I love this belt and it was really easy to make, I see a lot of wrap tie belts in my future.  I hope this will encourage you to dig into your spouse or in-laws tie collection and get creative.  Good Luck and happy recycling!!!
