Robin Otis-Clayborne remembers playing with paper dolls as a child and selling her dolls to her neighbors. Her aunt taught her to sew on a sewing machine when she was in the 6th grade and she started the school year in clothes she made.
Robin describes her design aesthetic as creative, beautiful and fun. She loves designing because it forces her to think outside the box and calls it a miracle that “you can make something beautiful with your own hands.”
Robin says the most unique thing she ever designed was a garment made with tarp and household paints.
She lists her favorite American designers as Tracy Resse, Anne Low and Cynthia Rowley and her favorite European designers as Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier and Vivienne Westwood.
If Robin could design for anyone she would choose Carla Hall from “the Chew” because “she is colorful and a fun person.” She would also like to design for Rihanna.
