Amber Colburn describes her design looks as effortless, feminine and sassy. The fourth year University of North Carolina Greensboro apparel product major started sewing in middle school “when I took a home economics class because I thought it would be cool to make food at school outside of the cafeteria!” From there, she fell in love with the sewing part of the class and pursued it throughout high school. Once she learned the skills, Amber began selling bathing suits, hair bows, dresses and more!
Amber finds her design motivation in creating “ready-to-wear clothing that women can feel confident and beautiful in. I find inspiration in many things but I love to always accentuate the woman’s body and show off her curves no matter what their size.” Her favorite thing about designing: seeing her vision come to life.
So what’s the coolest thing Amber has ever made? “Probably be my first bathing suit project in high school. It had a lot of cool strap designs and ruffles throughout the top.”
If Amber could design for anyone, it would be actress Emma Stone. Amber loves her style and personality and says, “she is a beautiful and talented women who is also feminine but very laid back which I feel fits my aesthetic very well.” Amber lists Alexander McQueen and Isaac Mizrahi as her favorite designers.
