I found a beautifully sequined two-piece set I call the “grandma of the bride” outfit on my very first Goodwill shopping extravaganza. I know..I know.. you’re thinking sequins?? really? ..Yes! Keeping with the color story I had in mind, there also at the end of the rack was a very long electric blue skirt that caught my eye.
After swatching all of the fabrics from the clothes I bought that day (see previous blog), the electric blue and the sequins seemed to almost instantaneously beg to be a pair! As I began sketching with the theme “Harlem Nights” in mind, I noticed all of my ideas seemed to gravitate toward a classic silhouette dressed up with a sparkle.
I envision a woman named Blu, who is a confident fashionista wearing a great pair of stilettos and this classic dress for an evening out in New York. As she swings open the door to a posh lounge while laughing with friends..the light inside catches her burgundy lip glass and the sparkle in her dress. She looks so fabulous she’s not only catching eyes but stealing smiles and holding the very light of the room.
