This was the picture that originally inspired me from Vogue magazine’s September 2013 issue. It was taken at Dolce & Gabbana’s masked ball held in Venice. I love the mix of colors and prints that were incorporated into each garment in the picture.
This is a more organized picture of the three garments that I purchased from Goodwill and were used in my first design.
My model, Cortney Addison is pictured wearing my first completed garment. The black and gold dress was used as the foundation, along with the sleeves and the bottom portion from the cream colored top as the peplum. I added the velvet to the bottom of the dress, and placed the feathers onto the hem. Also, I had enough of the velvet material left over to create gloves for my model. I hand painted and embellished the mask that Cortney is wearing with feathers that match the ones on the bottom of the dress.
Since I used a lot of gold and black in my first design, I plan to use more color in the other garments. On my next trip to Goodwill, I was able to pick up a few more clothes that had a lot of unique prints and rich colors.
