Virginia Cole: Rock the Runway Participation

Describe why you wanted to participate in ROCK THE RUNWAY.
I wanted to participate in Rock the Runway to increase my design experience, and stay involved in the design world while in graduate school. My program is more research and retail centered than actual design work, and I miss being in the studio and creating. Rock the Runway has provided an outlet for that. I would be remiss if I did not mention Triad Goodwill and its work within the community. The skills training and career opportunities they provide are invaluable, and I am contributing to Goodwill’s efforts in this small way.

What has been the best part of your participation in the fashion fundraiser so far?
The best part of participating in this fashion fundraiser is talking to other design students about the competition. It is my hope that each one of them will compete in the following years.

What is the most unique piece you purchased from Triad Goodwill for your collection?
The most unique piece I purchased was a UV Blocking curtain. So, the way “my creative” happens is I sculpt the material on the dress form, then I can draw sketches of what I want to happen, however, I usually see something better or different during the pattern making process. The UV curtain was no exception. I planned a short jacket…it ended up being a coat dress. I am happy with the result. It is the most definitive piece of my aesthetic than any of the others so far.
