Behind the Scenes with Designer – Ayanna Harrison

This was the picture that originally inspired me from Vogue magazine’s September 2013 issue.  It was taken at Dolce & Gabbana’s masked ball held in Venice.  I love the mix of colors and prints that were incorporated into each garment in the picture. This is a more organized picture of the three garments that I purchased from Goodwill and were used in my first design. My model, Cortney Addison is pictured wearing my first completed garment.  The black and gold dress was used as the foundation, along with the sleeves and [...]

As Coco Chanel says “ In order to be Irreplaceable one must always be Different”. And that is exactly what I’m doing and will always be doing. Indeed she is right, because in this crazy world of fashion the minute you decide to follow, you vanquish. You become the person who they “were” talking about but not the person they “are” talking about. Being different can be scary but exhilarating. I’m so excited to be a part of this fashion show! In addition to designing seven looks for this awesome event, I’m thrilled to be involved with something that will help people receive job training and helps our community. In my process for my collection, so far I have a vision or theme: Joan vs. Stevie. I’m aiming to blend the glamour of the 40’s with the boho chic of the 70’s (Joan Crawford vs. Stevie Nicks). I have made my first trip to Goodwill for items to start two looks. This is progressing very well. Before I started shopping, [...]
