“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening”- Coco Chanel.
Inspiration is an essential stimulation of creativity which is important for every designer. As a fashion major student, I love to seek different concepts in fashion and explore new inspirations in my daily life. I see dresses in everything. Sometimes, it comes from very common things, unexpected moments and unpredictable sources. When I was hoping for a chance to express these original ideas, I heard about the Goodwill Rock the Runway Show. That is why didn’t hesitate to send out my application. The theme is recrafted so it requires a combination of creativity and skills. Designing outfits for the show cannot be something abstract. I have to clearly outline the big picture for my collection to select the right types of clothes, reconstruct, and match them by colors and durability. This challenges me to visualize in the most realistic ways.
Besides the main focus of this challenge, designing, it was really nice to get to know other designers and the staff. The progress of the show including model calls, commercial shoot, and photo-shoots is just so fun, interesting and exciting. I feel we will produce a very successful fashion show together.
Even thinking about how my inspirations come to real life fashion makes me happy.
