Brief Bio:
I believe that in order to truly realize your full potential, you must know exactly who you are and what it is that you wish to accomplish in life. I am Ayanna Harrison, and I have the dream to share my passion and creativity with the world through fashion design. During my seventh grade year of Middle School, I became interested in learning how to sew. Shortly after, I signed up to take a weeklong sewing class at Jo-Ann fabric and crafts store. Once the classes were completed, I applied the acquired skills into creating my own garments and accessories for myself and others.
Currently I am a junior at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, majoring in Apparel Product Design. Overall, my time at UNCG has not been easy, but I have managed to get very far and giving up is not an option. I know that being ambitious and challenging myself is the only way to accomplish and capitalize on my goals. In the end, I feel that no dream is too big to be achieved.
I would describe my collection as having a historical background with a more modern look. The inspiration for my designs comes from the Carnival of Venice, which began during the Renaissance period. The carnival is most commonly known for its distinctive masks and wardrobes. I originally became interested in creating a collection that uses rich colors and unique embroidery, along with the masks to complement each garment. The mask is an additional accessory to the overall outfit, while at the same time allowing the models to come into character and portray someone besides there every day self.
