LaShawn Millner: Rock the Runway Participation
Describe why you wanted to participate in ROCK THE RUNWAY.
I wanted to participate in Rock the Runway because I knew it would challenge me as a designer and it is also for a great cause. Triad Goodwill has done so much for the community and also for my family. There was a moment when my dad was utilizing their services and they helped him reach his goals and pushed him to succeed. Because of their program, my dad was able to get the training he needed and get his high school diploma. As a designer, you always want to grow, develop, and get stronger in your craft. Learning to work with clothes that are already made and turn them into something completely different will give me another way to serve clients, and allow me to offer another option of redesign that I had not offered before.
What has been the best part of your participation in the fashion fundraiser so far?
The best part of my participation in the fashion fundraiser has been realizing my own potential. I feel like sometimes we limit ourselves to what we think is all that we can do, until someone or something pushes us to do otherwise. The fashion fundraiser has done this for me.
What is the most unique piece you purchased from Triad Goodwill for your collection?
I think the most unique piece I got for my collection are denim jeans. I say they are unique because of how I will use them. I think people will be surprised when they see what I come up with!
