Meet the Designer – Timaya

Timaya Kasey got her start as a designer by watching a teacher create costumes for school productions. “I decided that I wanted to learn how to design my own clothes, so I tried to teach myself,” she says. However, she didn’t really learn how to design until she took her first design studio class at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Timaya is currently a senior at UNCG majoring in Consumer, Apparel and Retail Studies with a minor in Entrepreneurship. She grew up in Roanoke, Virginia before moving to Charlotte in middle school. Upcycle Your Life

The daunting task of what to wear and the space needed to house outfits is an issue many of us face. We constantly shop, run out of room, and purge our undesirables. Instead of spending astronomical amounts of money at the boutique downtown, you can find diamonds in the rough at your local Triad Goodwill. With a little time and patience, you can create new ensembles through the lost art of deconstruction and reconstruction.
