When I embarked on this adventure with the goodwill show, I had no idea how creative things would get. I searched and searched until I found the perfect items to display some of the ideas circling in my mind. At one of the good will locations I found several shower curtains, yes I said SHOWER CURTAINS!
This is the picture of the first shower curtain I came across. I thought it was just a beautiful fabric and new right away that I wanted to make a long maxi dress with this shower curtain.
So, I laid the material out trying to be very careful to keep the aesthetic look of the fabric while I was cutting the pattern out. As, I was sewing this dress I started to get very excited because of how wonderful the piece was coming along. Once I finished the sewing process this is what I ended up creating with a simple shower curtain.
In my wildest dreams I never thought this fabric would turn out so beautiful. I added the trim at the bust to bring out the cherry color in the dress. If you look closely you can spot the shower curtain rings I painted to match this dress.
The next shower curtain I found was one of those cheap three dollar plastic shower curtains that you can find at dollar tree or Walmart. But when I looked at the color of the material, my mind went into action. I knew that this fabric was going to be difficult to sew and even more difficult to make it look like less of a shower curtain. Here are a few pictures of the shower curtain before I cut it out and while I was draping it.
The finished product of this shower curtain was unbelievable. I was amazed at how flowy it turned out to be and how well it fit her body once I was able to fit it to my model. I now have a new found respect for shower curtains, and whenever I see one I will think what type of garment could I create out of that.
Please stay tuned for a further sneak peek into more of my collection for the show in my next blog! Have a great week and shower on!
