Brief Bio:  Well to start off you know my name is John Lin and I’m one of the seven fabulous designers for Goodwill Rock the Runway 2014 fashion show. I was born in New York City, yes New York City. You might wonder what in the world am I doing in Greensboro, NC? Well, I moved to Hickory, NC when I was 10 because my parents opened up a business. I worked for the family till I went off to college which is now at UNCG and that brings us back to the reason why I’m in Greensboro. The reason why is because UNCG has a great consumer, apparel, retail studies program or simply put it as fashion program. In the last couple of years I have been able to participate in various fashion shows throughout the triad. It has shown me that I’m able to do what I love and show case it to the public. As a designer my esthetics and vision has changed in the last year. I was all about some black and more black that it just started to get boring. Don’t get me wrong, I still love black but I just needed a change. My designs were hard, edgy, and black. But now I’v broaden my horizon. I’v been able to tap into more of my softer side where black is not the main focus. Hard, edgy, and structural are still some of the elements I do but there are also other elements included such as fluidity, softness and delicateness. The color palette has also broaden to more neutrals, pinks, ivory, and even reds. To be honest, I would of never changed if I wasn’t being pushed to do things that are outside of my comfort zone.

How would you describe your collection? My collection is an evolution of my aesthetics in my design and how it has changed through the years.

Give us three words that describe you as a designer:  Fierce, Fun and Fabulous

I love Goodwill because it has provided me with the most interesting findings and ideas that I would of never thought of.
